Because of my commitment to a ceasefire?: Mützenich: Kyiv has put me on the terror list

SPD parliamentary group leader Mutzenich accuses the Ukrainian government of putting him on a terrorist list. The reason: his commitment to a diplomatic solution to the war. He then received more "secondary threats".

SPD faction leader Rolf Mützenich has accused the Ukrainian government of putting him on a terrorist list. "I was already irritated that the Ukrainian government put me on a terrorist list on the grounds that I am working for a ceasefire or for the possibility of taking further diplomatic steps via local ceasefires," said Mützenich SPD debate convention in Berlin. From the Ukrainian side there was initially no confirmation that the SPD parliamentary group leader had been put on a terrorist list.

Mützenich also said at the debate convention that he had received threats. "On the basis that you were put on this terrorist list by the Ukrainian government, you also received secondary threats, so to speak. It's not exactly easy to deal with either."

Mützenich complained about "discrimination" against those who, like himself, advocate diplomacy. "I oppose this rigorism." He defended his call for diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. "It remains the case: (...) Most wars did not end on the battlefield," said Mützenich.

The SPD politician recently expressed his hope that the G20 summit in Bali could pave the way for an end to the war in Ukraine. "The G20 summit in Bali in mid-November could be a forum to explore diplomatic initiatives," Mutzenich told the editorial network Germany. "There is certainly no ceasefire overnight. Sometimes they only develop in individual regions at first. But we must not ignore any opportunity that makes a local ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners of war and the supply of the civilian population possible."

Mützenich's point of view contrasts with that of FDP defense politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, who calls for more arms deliveries to Ukraine. The United States also advocates not cheating Ukraine's strategy and allowing it to choose to fight back and fight back on the battlefield in Russia's war of aggression and to choose the timing of diplomatic negotiations as it sees fit.
