Chinese Target of attack: IS claims responsibility for hotel attack in Kabul

Since the change of power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have been trying to ensure security in the country. But there are repeated attacks by the enemy terrorist militia, the Islamic State. IS is now claiming responsibility for the recent attack on a hotel in Kabul.

The terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack on a hotel in the Afghan capital Kabul. This was announced by the Site Intelligence Group, which specializes in online propaganda by extremists, late Monday evening. Accordingly, the attack was directed primarily against the Chinese housed there. The extremist group said two IS fighters detonated two explosive devices on Monday in the hotel "visited by Chinese diplomats and business people". One of them also shot hotel guests.

The information on the number of victims differed widely. According to the website, IS claims to have killed or injured 30 people, according to the Taliban ruling in Afghanistan, three attackers were killed and two foreign guests who were fleeing in panic were injured when they jumped out of the hotel windows. A local hospital said 21 patients had been admitted after the attack, three of whom were already dead.

Both the IS and the militant Islamist Taliban belong to Sunni Islam. However, both are enemies of each other, which is why the representations of both sides after attacks such as those on the hotel often diverge in the struggle for interpretation sovereignty.

Since the return of the radical Islamic Taliban to power in August last year, many Chinese businessmen have been visiting Afghanistan. China shares a 76-kilometer border with its neighboring country. Although Beijing does not officially recognize the Taliban government, it has kept its embassy in Afghanistan open even after it took power.

The Taliban have since made improving security one of their priorities. Still, IS has increased its attacks on civilians, including foreign nationals, in Afghanistan. Earlier this month, shots were fired at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul, injuring a security guard. In September, six people were killed in an attack on the Russian embassy. IS claimed responsibility for both acts.
