Cities ranking: Munich is the most livable city to be named

The Bavarian capital has made it to the top in the city ranking of the British magazine 34; Monocle 34; Three other German cities are among the top 20.

The many greens, clean public transport and roads make Munich particularly attractive: thus London magazine Monocle first place of Bavarian capital on list of 25 most livable cities. Munich occupies top position for third time. The British magazine annually selects most livable cities.

Germany cuts overall list better than any or country. In addition to Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf were placed in places 6, 8 and 18. Also well represented are Japan (Tokyo is at second place) and Australia with three cities each in ranking. The only city in North America is Canadian Pacific Metropolis Vancouver. Africa and South America do not occur. 15 of 25 cities are located in Europe.

Quality of life, business climate, gastronomy and retail

In addition to classical quality of life – such as public transport, education, health care, green spaces or crime rates – magazine also evaluates business climate, gastronomy and retail trade for survey according to its criteria.

Twelve times has so far chosen most livable cities – three times Munich was on top of list (2007, 2010 and now 2018), also three times front were Tokyo (2015, 2016, 2017) and Copenhagen (2008, 2013, 2014). Twice number one was Swiss metropolis of Zurich (2009 and 2012) and once Finland's capital city Helsinki (2011).

The Monocle list is one of several studies that are quality of life of cities. At Mercer Consulting company, for example, this year – ninth consecutive – Austria's capital Vienna was ranked one. There was third place in Munich. At Monocle It is or way round: Munich on one, Vienna on three.
