Clinics, houses, infrastructure: Russia is again attacking Ukrainian cities

Russia fires missiles at Ukrainian cities again. This time, the occupiers are not just targeting industrial properties, but also residential buildings and clinics. Several people die, including a newborn.

Russia has again launched rocket attacks in numerous locations in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian sources, a newborn was killed in an attack on a maternity ward in the southern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhia. The two-storey building of the Vilnius city maternity ward was destroyed, the rescue services said on Telegram. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of "terrorism and murder". The capital Kyiv also came under fire again; three people were killed and the water supply cut off.

At the time of the attack, only the newborn's mother and a doctor were in the maternity ward, the rescue workers said. The mother and doctor were rescued, however, according to Zelenskyj, the woman was injured in the attack.

Russian forces have repeatedly attacked Ukrainian hospitals since invading Ukraine on February 24. On Wednesday morning, a clinic and a multi-storey residential building in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv were also shelled, killing a 55-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, according to regional governor Oleg Synegubov.

The ongoing Russian rocket attacks are hitting the country hard, many people are without water, electricity and heating. Today, Wednesday, Kyiv again reported heavy rocket attacks on important infrastructure in the capital. According to the military administration, three people were killed and six others injured.

According to the Kiev City Hall, the water supply failed throughout the city. "Because of the bombing, the water supply is cut off throughout Kyiv," Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Experts are on duty to restore them as quickly as possible. The governor of the Kyiv region, Oleksiy Kuleba, called on the population of the capital to stay in shelters. According to the mayor of the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, there was a complete power outage.

Zelenskyy again accused Russia of wanting to break Ukraine's resistance by terrorizing people with attacks such as on hospitals and civilian infrastructure. "The enemy has once again decided to use terror and murder to achieve what it has been unable and will not achieve for nine months," Zelenskyy said on Telegram. He reiterated that Russia would be "held accountable" for its actions.

The EU Parliament also accused Moscow of using "terrorist means" in its war of aggression in Ukraine. In a resolution, Parliament condemned Moscow's "deliberate attacks and atrocities" against the civilian population in Ukraine and classified "Russia as a state facilitating terrorism and a state using terrorist tools". However, the resolution is not binding and therefore has no legal consequences for the Kremlin.
