A journalist in Lithuania initiates a three-and-a-half-day fundraiser to buy weapons for Ukraine. Specifically, it's about a combat drone. Now the ministry is sending its deputy to Turkey for purchasing.
Citizens of the Baltic Republic of Lithuania donated more than five million euros to buy a combat drone for the Ukrainian armed forces. The money was raised at a public fundraiser that lasted just three and a half days and ended Saturday night. Lithuania has 2.8 million inhabitants.
"Probably for the first time in history, the citizens of one state can buy such a heavy weapon and donate it to another state," said Andrias Tapinus from the internet television station Laisves TV, who initiated the fundraising campaign. According to the initiators, the money should now be handed over to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, which should buy the drone and the associated ammunition.
