G9 Model: North Rhine-Westphalia returns to high school after nine years

Since 2008 was in NRW: Abitur after eight years high school. So it wanted to be black and yellow back then. Now the CDU and FDP are returning to the G9.

G9 Model: North Rhine-Westphalia returns to high school after nine years

In future, students in North Rhine-Westphalia will go back to secondary school until graduation. This was decided by Landtag in Düsseldorf with votes of government groups of CDU and FDP. The opposition groups and three non-attached Members abstained.

The changeover to G9 at public high schools starts in school year 2019/2020 with fifth and similarly. Students who are currently attending a public gymnasium will remain in G8 until graduation. Individual grammar schools can also choose to stay at eight years of age.

G8 had introduced black-yellow provincial government to school year 2008/2009. According to School Minister Yvonne Bauer (FDP), however, it was not possible to create "necessary acceptance among parents and teachers". Or federal states have also returned to G9 in meantime. Finally, Bayern decided to turn turnaround.
