In Bordeaux, four people indicted for the fire of the porch of the town hall

The images of the burning door had made the rounds of the media. They are now four men who have been indicted following the arson of the porch of the town hall of Bordeaux, on March 23, during incidents following the demonstration against the pension reform. After that of a first suspect pronounced on Thursday March 25, three new suspects were indicted on Saturday April 1, said the Bordeaux prosecutor's office.

The first, born in 1986, was indicted for "degradation of public property by incendiary substance" and "participation in a group formed with a view to preparing violence", and was imprisoned, details the prosecution in a press release. This man has already been the subject of twenty-one convictions, including two for "degradation of an object of public utility", specifies the prosecutor of the Republic of Bordeaux, Frédérique Porterie.

Two other suspects, born in 1998 and 2004, were also indicted, but only for "participation in a group formed to prepare violence". They are placed under judicial supervision, but the prosecution has appealed the decision of their placement.

Damage of up to 3 million euros, according to the town hall

Their indictment follows that of a first suspect for the same facts, Thursday, March 25, and announced by the prosecution the same day. The public prosecutor then specified that he had requested the "placement in provisional detention" of this man "against whom there were serious and consistent indications of participation in these facts". A total of five people were taken into custody after the fire.

The fire on the porch of the town hall had lasted about fifteen minutes on the evening of March 23, after the end of a demonstration against the pension reform enamelled with overflows, damaging the massive wooden door of the building, before being extinguished by firefighters.

The damage is estimated at nearly 3 million euros by the town hall.

King Charles III of England was also to be received on Tuesday March 28 at Bordeaux City Hall, but the Elysee Palace had announced four days earlier the postponement of his state visit to France, against a backdrop of fierce social protest.
