"Inflatable boat broke": Viktor Orban rescued from distress

Again and again Viktor Orban ends up in the press with his politics. Now the Hungarian Prime Minister is making headlines even on vacation. On a boat trip on the Adriatic he has to be rescued with his wife and his bodyguards.

According to a newspaper report, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban was rescued from distress at sea during a vacation in Croatia. "His inflatable boat broke, so I brought him, his wife and his bodyguard to shore," journalist Boris Vrkic told the daily Slobodna Dalmacija.

He also gave the newspaper, for which he used to work himself, a photo that shows him with Orban in his boat. The incident happened over the weekend in a bay on the island of Vis. Orban was in a good mood during the rescue operation, Vrkic continued. He then recommended him a fish restaurant above Rukavac Bay.

Right-wing populist Prime Minister Orban, who recently appeared at a meeting of supporters of former US President Donald Trump in Texas, usually spends his summer vacations in Croatia by the sea.

Orban has governed the EU country of Hungary since 2010. Orban is in conflict with the European Union over the dismantling of democracy and the rule of law. Several procedures are currently underway against Hungary, including one under the new Rule of Law Mechanism, which could lead to the withdrawal of EU funding.
