Invitation of Elisabeth Borne to the unions: the CGT announces that it will go to Matignon

The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, will indeed go to Matignon on May 16 or 17, thus responding to the invitation of the Prime Minister addressed to the unions for bilateral talks, informed the General Confederation of Labor (CGT ) Saturday, May 6.

Elisabeth Borne sent these invitations on Friday to the five representative unions – French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT), CGT, Force Ouvrière (FO), French Confederation of Management-General Confederation of Executives (CFE-CGC) and French Confederation of Workers Christians (CFTC) - for talks without a "specific agenda", after the enactment of the much-contested pension reform and major protests on May Day.

These invitations come a month after a meeting at Matignon with the inter-union opposed to the reform. The meeting was then cut short, and the trade unions scheduled a new day of demonstrations on June 6.

The 'battle' against pension reform is 'not over'

CFDT boss Laurent Berger, who also intends to accept the invitation, said on Thursday that the "battle" against the pension reform was "not over". In particular, he appealed to "all parliamentarians", who will examine on June 8 a bill from the independent group LIOT [Liberties, Independents, Overseas Territories and Territories] aimed at repealing the postponement of the retirement age. at age 64.

Regarding future interviews at Matignon, "we will have a method requirement" and "we would like to know if it is to negotiate, discuss or 'blablater'", he said, before Matignon issued his invitations.
