"It's a pity": Kuleba: Doesn't promise tank deliveries

The Ukrainian ambassador Makeiev has just said that he has received promises in Berlin for further arms deliveries. His boss, Foreign Minister Kuleba, has now made it clear that there is no decision to supply tanks to Ukraine. The "Gepard" tanks are also anti-aircraft weapons.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, there are currently no German commitments to supply tanks to Ukraine. "Such a decision has not yet been made. There are no commitments. But we are working on it, quite openly," said Kuleba on ARD.

Ukraine does not understand why Germany is supplying artillery but not tanks. "As of now, there are projects from Germany, these are the delivery of the IRIS-T systems, these are anti-aircraft weapons." The "Gepard" tanks are also anti-aircraft weapons. "But as of this writing, as far as I know, tanks are not included in that list. That's a shame."

The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, had previously said he had received promises in Berlin for further arms deliveries. "We will announce which ones together in due course," Makeiev said in an interview with "Welt am Sonntag". More anti-aircraft systems, self-propelled howitzers, "Gepard" tanks and ammunition were urgently needed at the front. "In addition, we are still in talks about the delivery of 'Marder' and 'Leopard' tanks. But the decision on this lies with the federal government," said the ambassador.

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz from the SPD had previously refused the delivery of "Leopard" 2 tanks on the grounds that no other NATO country has made such tanks available. The US signaled on Friday that they see no obstacle in this. But it was Germany's decision, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman told journalists during a visit to Berlin.

Kuleba also stated that in the civilian sphere, the supply of generators and transformers is important to replace the infrastructure systematically destroyed by Russia. He thinks a general blackout is possible, added Kuleba, and at the same time accused Russia of "genocide" because of the attacks when it was cold. "The best way to stop this action by Russia is of course weapons, missiles that can repel drones, tanks and artillery so that we can drive the Russians off our territory."
