Japan: At least three deaths and 200 injured after earthquake

In a quake of magnitude 6.1, three people have died in Japan, at least 200 have been injured. Experts warn of further earthquakes.

During a strong earthquake in western Japan, at least three people died, more than 200 people in area of city of Osaka were injured, Japanese media reported.

A nine-year-old girl died when a wall in a swimming pool collapsed. An old man was also slain by a wall, anor from a falling bookcase. In stores, goods fell from shelves.

By vibration of strength 6.1 fell in more than 170,000 households in Osaka and neighboring province of Hyogo electricity. The gas supply was interrupted in more than 100,000 households. Some people remained stuck on ir way to work in elevators. A water pipe was bursting under a road, causing area to be flooded. Television showed pictures of a burning house. High-speed trains were stopped, and or trains remained in morning traffic.

The center of quake was at a depth of about ten kilometers in north of eponymous province of Osaka. Experts warned of furr, possibly stronger earthquakes. 1995, region had been haunted by a quake of strength 7.3. At that time more than 6,434 people were killed.

Japan is one of most heavily earthquake-prone countries in world. Last weekend, two quakes of lesser strength had also shaken Tokyo neighboring provinces of Gumma and Chiba.
