"Louis XVI, we beheaded you, Macron, we can start again": an elected LFI creates an uproar

A surprise demonstration and shocking words. Sunday, May 7, a handful of demonstrators gathered in front of the headquarters of the presidential Renaissance party, on the occasion of the anniversary of the inauguration of Emmanuel Macron as well as the six years of his first election. According to images spotted by our colleagues from BFMTV, an elected relative LFI, Christophe Prudhomme sang a song referring to the beheading of King Louis XVI.

“Louis XVI, we beheaded him. Macron, we can start again ”, chanted the opponents, including Christophe Prudhomme, doctor within the Samu of Seine-Saint-Denis, national delegate of the CGT health … and elected Ile-de-France related to La France insoumise since 2021.

At his side, LFI deputy Thomas Portes was also present at the demonstration. As a reminder, in February 2023, the one who is elected in Seine-Saint-Denis had set foot on a balloon bearing the image of the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt. The rebellious had received censorship with exclusion of 15 days from his colleagues. And this, while the Assembly was in the midst of a debate on pension reform.

On Monday, Christophe Prudhomme returned to this sentence and assures us that it is a "kind of catharsis". "I prefer anger to be expressed verbally," he said. "You have the right, today, I think, to express your anger. It's symbolic, it's political," he continued.

In a tweet, the Renaissance MP for Hérault, Patrick Vignal, castigated the "sad image of the role of politics". On Monday, the president of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse also reacted. "I strongly condemn the words of the LFI Regional Councilor [...]. This call for violence and hatred against the President of the Republic is intolerable and dishonors his mandate,” she said on the same social network.

Will the chosen one be sanctioned by the regional council? It is still too early to tell. Nevertheless, the president of the majority group in the regional council, Vincent Jeanbrun, calls for a decision of this kind. “At our next session, I will ask that our assembly be able to take a sanction against him. In Île-de-France, we fight violence and we respect ALL elected officials. The LFI is dangerous for the Republic,” he, too, tweeted.
