Majority, oppositions: the first reactions after Macron's speech

"A fixed course" for the majority, an "unreal" Macron and "a catalog of pious wishes" for the opposition: the main political reactions after the speech by the President of the Republic.

- Elisabeth Borne, Prime Minister: "Emmanuel Macron put it forcefully: We have before us 100 days of appeasement, unity, ambition and action in the service of France. Next week I will present the roadmap of my Government".

- Stéphane Séjourné, Secretary General of Renaissance: "Responding to the concerns expressed by our fellow citizens in recent months while building a more independent country, a fairer and more united nation in a stronger Europe: this is the course set by Emmanuel Macron. Renaissance y will put all his strength and energy".

- Sacha Houlié, Renaissance deputy: "Work and wealth sharing, justice and republican order, social progress and public services, the projects presented by the president correspond to the demands of our fellow citizens. We will be there, alongside the First Minister, to deliver on those promises".

- Jean-Luc Mélenchon, La France Insoumise: "Unreal Macron. Completely out of reality, assumes the theft of two years of freedom. The saucepans ring truer".

- Mathilde Panot, leader of the LFI deputies: "There is only Emmanuel Macron left to believe in Emmanuel Macron. The bunkered President has nothing to offer the country. We gladly prefer the sound of saucepans to his words hollow. On May 1, we remind him that we do not govern against the people".

- Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS: "From the palace of the bogged down the arsonist president promises 100 days to put out the fire that he feeds daily".

- Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the PCF: "Those who did not listen lost nothing".

- Cyrielle Chatelain, leader of the green deputies: "Emmanuel Macron announces nothing, changes nothing. He does not take the measure of the anger or the extent of the social and environmental crisis. The speech of an abyssal void of a President drunk on his own word".

- Eric Ciotti, boss of LR: "I welcome with skepticism this long catalog of pious wishes which brings neither direction nor novelty, in spite of objectives which are just as laudable as they are obvious. The President of the Republic has not outlined any discount in question and does not open up any concrete prospects: the method will obviously not change. Emmanuel Macron seemed to begin this evening a presidential mandate which he has nevertheless been invested with for six years ".

- Bruno Retailleau, boss of LR senators: "An expected speech, Emmanuel Macron as usual: full of certainties and promises of tomorrows that sing. But no questioning, no change of method, no break in a policy that disappoints for 6 years".

- Marine Le Pen, patroness of RN deputies: "By announcing the withdrawal of the pension reform or the referendum, Emmanuel Macron could have re-established the link with the French this evening. He again chose to turn his back on them and to ignore their suffering. This disconnected, solitary and obtuse practice of power announces the continuation of a five-year term of contempt, indifference and brutality from which we will have to end by the ballot box".
