Mexico: Mass graves with 166 corpses discovered

In Veracruz, 32 mass graves were found. According to the Mexican prosecutor, it is 166 victims of the drug war.

Investigators found 166 corpses in east of Mexico in several mass graves. At exhumations in state of Veracruz, Forensikexperten identified more than 32 graves, prosecutor responsible Jorge Winckler shared with him. For safety reasons, he does not want to disclose detailed details about location at first.

After first results of forensics, graves should be at least two years old. In addition to 200 garments, investigators also found personal items, including 144 documents. By means of drones and locating sensors, more corpses are to be identified according to authorities.

Veracruz is known for drug-related crime, gang wars, and corruption. Rival gangs such as Sinaloa Cartel, Los Zetas and Jalisco Nueva Generación are still fighting for dominance of drug trafficking. In 2006, Mexican government launched a campaign against cartels using army. Since n, more than 200,000 people have died, more than 3,600 people are missing. Already in August 2016, anor mass grave with 60 corpses had been discovered.
