Near the Ukrainian border: Rocket debris falls again in Moldova

At the end of October, debris from rockets crashed on Moldovan territory. Now it's probably happening again. Prime Minister Gavriliţa is reluctant to speak to the media. A spokesman for Ukraine is demanding more missile defense systems from western allies.

According to a media report, a rocket fell in the Republic of Moldova near the border with Ukraine. The police found the remains of the projectile in the north of the country, as quoted by the state news portal Prima Sursa.

The government of the former Soviet republic was initially reluctant to comment on the part of the rocket that had been found. "I was informed that the border guards found part of a rocket near Briceni," Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa said, according to local media. The area at the site, just a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has been cordoned off. The incident is being investigated by the authorities.

Russia had previously launched another massive rocket attack on Ukraine as part of its war of aggression, which has been ongoing since February. According to their own statements, the Ukrainian air defense system shot down more than 80 percent of the more than 70 Russian missiles.

Rocket fragments had already fallen on Moldovan territory in a similar attack at the end of October. In November, two Poles were killed near the border by a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile.

Gavrilița did not comment on the origin of the missile debris. However, she generally pledged her support for the Ukrainian people and condemned the Russian rocket attacks on civilian objects.

In response, the Ukrainian foreign ministry again demanded more missile defense systems from western allies. "This proves once again that Russian missile terror poses a major threat not only to Ukraine's security, but also to the security of neighboring countries," a spokesman said.
