Before films such as “Moonlight,” “La La Land” and “Hidden Figures” compete on Sunday at the 89th Academy Awards, check out films such as “Shakespeare in Love,” “Spotlight” and “Amadeus,” which have all won awards in the past.

1. “Anna Karenina” (2012)

Starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson, “Anna Karenina” was nominated for four Academy Awards and ended up taking home the award for best costume design.

2. “Beginners” (2010)

Nominated at the 84th Academy Awards, “Beginners” got actor Christopher Plummer the award for best supporting actor.

3. “Undefeated” (2011)

Directed by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin, the true story of a struggling Memphis high school football team won best documentary feature.

4. “Tarzan” (1999)

Thanks to Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be In My Heart,” Disney’s “Tarzan” won the award for best original song. 

5. “The Prince of Egypt” (1998)

Like “Tarzan,” the animated film “The Prince of Egypt” received the award for best original song for the track “When You Believe” by Stephen Schwartz.

6. “Shakespeare in Love” (1998)

Directed by John Madden, the 1998 romantic comedy-drama won seven Academy Awards including best original screenplay, best art direction and best picture.

7. “Good Will Hunting” (1997)

Nominated for nine awards, “Good Will Hunting” ended up winning the award for best original screenplay while Robin Williams took home the award for best supporting actor. 

8. “Pulp Fiction” (1994)

While Quentin Tarantino’s classic film lost out on many of the awards it was nominated for, the director did win best original screenplay.

9. “Amadeus” (1984)

Nominated for a whopping 11 awards during the 1985 Oscars, the Miloš Forman-directed film won eight awards including best picture, best director and best actor in a leading role (F. Murray Abraham).

10. “On Golden Pond” (1981)

Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn both took home awards for best actor and best actress for their roles in the 1981 drama.

11. “Julia” (1977)

Based on the book Pentimento, “Julia” won three Oscars including best adapted screenplay, best actress in a supporting role (Vanessa Redgrave) and best actor in a supporting role (Jason Robards).

12. “The Great Gatsby” (1974)

The 1974 version of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel took home two Academy Awards for best costume design and best music.

13. “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962)

Considered to be one of the best films ever made, “To Kill a Mockingbird” won three Oscars including best picture and best actor (Gregory Peck).

14. “The Longest Day” (1962)

Nominated for five Academy Awards, the 1962 epic war film ended up winning best special effects and best cinematography. 

15. “Three Coins in the Fountain” (1954)

The oldest film on this list, the romantic comedy won Oscars for best cinematography and best original song.

16. “Spotlight” (2015)

A surprise win in 2016, the film, which stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams, won best picture and best original screenplay.

17. “The Big Short” (2015)

Based on the 2010 book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” the 2015 film, which starred Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling, won best adapted screenplay.

18. “Boyhood” (2014)

Nominated for six awards, the film ended up winning Patricia Arquette best supporting actress.

19. “The Imitation Game” (2014)

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, the film lost out on many of the awards it was nominated for but did win best adapted screenplay.

20. “Hugo” (2011)

The historical adventure drama ended up winning a number of awards including best cinematography, best art direction, best sound editing and best visual effects.

21. “Inside Job” (2010)

The documentary about the late-2000 financial crisis won director Charles H. Ferguson the Oscar for best documentary feature.

22. “Milk” (2008)

Based on the true life story of politician and gay rights activist Harvey Milk, Sean Penn won best actor and the film won best original screenplay. 

23. “No Country for Old Men” (2007)

The 2007 film earned Javier Bardem best supporting actor, while directors Joel and Ethan Coen took home the awards for best director and best adapted screenplay.

24. “Atonement” (2007)

Nominated for seven awards, the film, starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, won best original score. 

25. “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005)

Nominated for best visual effects, best makeup and best sound mixing, the 2005 film took home the award for best makeup.
