No more cuts: additional earnings limit for early retirees will be abolished

Anyone who retires early can continue to work, but above a certain income level their benefits will be reduced. Now the Bundestag decides to overturn the additional income limits.

Early retirees with a part-time job can earn as much as they like from the coming year without their pension being reduced. The Bundestag has decided to abolish the additional earnings limit for early retirement pensions without replacement. Most recently, the limit was relatively high at 46,060 euros in order to make working more attractive for older people in view of the staff shortages caused by the corona pandemic. In the case of recipients of disability pensions, the additional income limits increase from the current 6,300 euros per year to up to 34,500 euros, depending on the individual case. These individual regulations are part of an extensive catalog of changes for the area of social security.

The package of measures includes, among other things, more generous additional income opportunities in the artists' social security fund (KSK). While their members were previously allowed to earn a maximum of 450 euros per month from non-artistic activities, in future they will remain covered by the KSK for as long as the artistic or journalistic activity is still recognizable as their "main profession".

In addition, the package of laws passed by the Bundestag contains a number of digitization measures: Numerous processes such as reporting parental benefit periods or issuing a clearance certificate will be completely converted from the previous paper form to electronic processes.
