of atonement for atrocities : Namibia rejects German offer

The Namibian government has rejected a German offer of reparation for the atrocities committed during the colonial period. The proposals of the government were not acceptable, said the government of President Hage Geingob in a Statement on Facebook on Tuesday evening. Germany and Namibia to negotiate for 2015 on financial payments and an apology for the crimes against the people groups of the Herero and Nama in the former German South West Africa.

Namibian media reports, the Federal government agreed to pay ten million euros to Namibia and an unreserved apology. President Geingob had announced at the beginning of June already, refuse this offer. After a further round of Negotiations, he was tasked on Tuesday the Namibian negotiators Zed Ngavirue, to negotiate a new deal, says the statement of the government.

point of contention is in addition to the amount of the reparation to their name. The Federal government rejected the concept of reparations, and instead refers to the task, "to heal wounds". Ngavirue referred to this expression as inappropriate.
