Former Socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve calls on Emmanuel Macron to "suspend the pension reform" and to seek "a compromise" with the trade unions, in a press release to AFP.
"Pausing the contested reform can create the conditions for a top-down exit from the crisis, and put an end to the spiral of violence", writes Mr. Cazeneuve, who has just created a movement, La Convention, to bring together the social-democratic left forces hostile to the Nupes.
While "France has faced, since the adoption of the pension reform through Article 49.3 of the Constitution, a rise in anger and a surge of violence", there is "a path and a alone: the search for a compromise with the trade unions in order to get the country out of the growing crisis" and "to guarantee the sustainability of the financing of pensions", also writes Bernard Cazeneuve.
Mr. Macron "cannot be refractory to his people" and must "choose the path of de-escalation", continues the ex-minister of François Hollande.
The secretary general of the CFDT Laurent Berger, for his part, asked the head of state to "pause" the pension reform.
