Rocket launchers until the beginning of August: Lambrecht assures Ukraine that weapons will be delivered soon

Ukraine receives weapons from all over the world to defend itself against the Russian attack. There are also said to be heavy artillery pieces from Germany, but the transfer is slow. But it should start soon, promises Defense Minister Lambrecht.

According to Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, the heavy artillery pieces destined for Ukraine from Germany can soon be brought there. "The training is almost complete. And now the Ukrainian soldiers who were trained can then be transferred to Ukraine with the tank howitzers," said the SPD politician on ZDF. According to her, the promised delivery of decommissioned anti-aircraft tanks of the "Gepard" type is also imminent: "The 'Gepard' will now be able to be delivered promptly."

She also referred to the commitment to deliver multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine jointly with the US and UK. "Germany will participate with three such systems, but also with the corresponding number of rockets, spare parts and here again with training," said Lambrecht. "Training on these multiple rocket launchers can start at the end of June, which means they can be delivered at the end of July or beginning of August," she told a meeting with her counterparts from NATO member countries in Brussels. According to her, the Bundeswehr's obligations to provide technology within NATO do not allow for more. "The test has shown that we can deliver two such systems plus one in reserve."

In addition, the exchange of rings with NATO partners, who are handing over older weapons of Soviet design to Ukraine and could get replacements from Germany, is "on the right track," said Lambrecht. "We are currently in the process of implementation with the Czech Republic." And: "We are in talks and in exchange with Greece, and also with Poland, with Slovenia."
