Russian Weapons Boost: London: Ukrainians use mostly captured tanks

When they withdraw, sometimes hasty, the Russians leave behind masses of weapons and ammunition - to the advantage of the Ukrainians. As the British secret service now explains, the Ukrainian troops are using a number of captured tanks. This also allows conclusions to be drawn about Russian combat morale.

According to British military experts, the Ukrainian army is now largely using vehicles captured by the Russian invading army. More than half of the deployed Ukrainian tanks come from Moscow stocks, according to the British Ministry of Defense's daily intelligence update on the Ukraine war.

Ukraine has probably captured at least 440 main battle tanks and about 650 armored vehicles since the invasion. The failure of Russian crews to destroy operational material before retreating or surrendering shows how poorly trained Russian soldiers are and how low morale is. It is likely that the Russians will continue to lose heavy weapons.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently reported the withdrawal of thousands of Russian soldiers after the front line collapsed, first in the north-east and then, since the beginning of the week, also in the south. In a video address Thursday evening, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had recaptured more than 500 square kilometers and dozens of towns in the Kherson region.

The British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine at the end of February, citing intelligence information. In doing so, the British government wants to both counter the Russian portrayal and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
