Minister of Health Lauterbach cannot leave the house without personal protection. He has long been the target of death threats - but not only he, but also his five children. Although he is already used to a lot in this regard, he is shocked.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach of the SPD not only has to live with death threats against himself, but is also concerned about the safety of his family. "I am still being threatened myself, and I also receive shocking death threats for my children," Lauterbach told the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger". "I have to park my car in a suburb. Unfortunately, I can't go outside in the evening without personal security," added the SPD politician.
Already in the spring he said that without this protection he could neither go for a walk nor go to a restaurant: "I would endanger myself, but also others with whom I go out to eat or who happen to be near me." He is often threatened with violence and is on various death lists. The perpetrators sprayed his homes in Cologne and Berlin and damaged his private car.
Lauterbach lives in the center of Cologne. He has five children - four adult and one teenage daughter. For a long time he has been the target of hate comments, which are mainly directed against his Corona policy. Lauterbach is also often the target of attacks at demonstrations by opponents of the Corona measures - be it on posters or in speeches.
He is generally one of the most threatened politicians in Germany and is therefore classified in the highest security level. Accordingly, he deals with advertisements consistently. "In Cologne alone, there are currently 98 initiated and ongoing investigations, and the identity of the perpetrators was determined in 65 cases," Lauterbach reported in April. "I do it so consistently because an opponent of vaccination who threatens me with violence will probably also threaten his mayor or city council. A successful complaint from me can also protect others."
Also in April it became known that a group of "lateral thinkers" had apparently planned his kidnapping.
