Summer wave as a warning signal: Greens are quickly demanding new infection protection rules

The number of infections is increasing again significantly. The corona pandemic is not over, but the current regulations are temporary. In order not to lose any time, Greens health expert Dahmen is now urging the government to act quickly.

The Greens health expert Janosch Dahmen urges the government coalition to deal with the infection protection rules for the fall as quickly as possible. "We should take the warning signal from this summer wave very seriously," Dahmen told the newspapers of the Funke media group against the background of the rapidly increasing number of infections.

"If we go into autumn unprepared, without a broad-based booster vaccination program and without a legal basis that makes effective measures such as compulsory masks indoors possible, then we have to fear that there could be many more deaths, especially in the very old age groups." , he warned.

The current regulations in the Infection Protection Act are limited to September 23 of this year. Dahmen urged to clarify as soon as possible what should apply afterwards. "It's not long until September 23," he told the Funke newspapers. "We should therefore not lose any time and, with foresight, get involved in the parliamentary referral for a new, consistent infection protection law before the summer break."

The central basis for the discussion should be the autumn-winter statement by the Traffic Light Expert Council. This has been available since last week. The FDP, on the other hand, wants to wait for an evaluation of the measures taken so far, which should not come until the end of the month.

Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann, on the other hand, spoke out against a rapid tightening of the corona rules in the ARD talk show “Maischberger” on Wednesday evening. "Nobody has to worry. We have all the instruments that are being talked about under current law." The FDP politician urged his coalition partners to be patient: "Of course we will talk about this report in July, that was never a point of contention. Then we will talk to the federal states. And then in September there will be an orderly legislative process on the consequences."
