Survey in Thuringia: Every fourth voter would vote for AfD

In half of the legislature in Thuringia, a survey shows that there is still no government majority. In the meantime, the AfD would be the strongest force in the Free State. The ruling left loses.

According to a survey, almost two years before the regular state elections in Thuringia, the AfD is the strongest force in the state. If there were state elections next Sunday, 25 percent of those questioned would vote for Björn Höcke's party, according to the survey by infratest-dimap on behalf of MDR.

According to the information, the CDU and the left are tied for second place with 22 percent in the Thuringia trend. The SPD would come to eleven percent. The Greens with seven percent and the FDP with five percent would again be represented in the state parliament.

Forming a government would be difficult. Neither Red-Red-Green (together 40 percent) nor a four-party alliance of CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP (45 percent) would have a majority.

Compared to the result in the 2019 state election, such a result would be a significant loss for the left. At that time, the party of Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow had reached 31 percent. The AfD, on the other hand, could improve slightly, having reached 23.4 percent three years ago.

When asked about the popularity of the respective top personnel, 53 percent of those questioned were at least satisfied with Prime Minister Ramelow's work. Only 23 percent make this assessment of Green politician Anja Sigesmund. AfD country chief Björn Höcke meets with the type of his work with greater approval (16) than CDU parliamentary group leader and top candidate Mario Voigt (13 percent).

In Thuringia, Ramelow leads a red-red-green minority government. Actually, the state parliament should have been dissolved last year. But because it became apparent that the necessary two-thirds majority would not be achieved, the new election was called off.
