Trader Joe’s Manzana Apple Sauce Recall 2017: Full List Of Products Affected And How To Get A Refund

Fans of Trader Joe’s signature apple sauces may want to heed this recent recall: Manzana Products Co. has voluntarily issued a recall of three types of the apple sauces.

The three versions of unsweetened apple sauces were recalled because of potential glass pieces inside the jars, according to an announcement from the Food and Drug Administration on Saturday. Across the country, Trader Joe’s Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce products marked with "Best Before" dates through Oct. 6, 2018 were recalled as well as Trader Joe’s First Crush Unsweetened Gravenstein Apple Sauce marked through Aug. 8, 2018.

Trader Joe’s All Natural Unsweetened Apple Sauce products sold in Alabama, California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Louisiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, Washington and Utah and dated through Dec. 16, 2018 were a part of the recent recall, as well.

The recalls followed reports from customers who discovered glass in the recalled products, which were packaged in 24-ounce glass jars. The apple sauce products were immediately pulled from store shelves following the recall announcement.

Customers who purchased the potentially tainted products were being offered a full refund by Trader Joe’s and Manzana Products Co. The companies urged shoppers to toss the apple sauces or to bring them in to a store to get a full refund.

Prior to the apple sauce recall, Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc. issued a recall in December for its Trader Joe’s White Bean & Basil Hummus due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Full refunds on the affected hummus products were offered then, also. Listeria has been a consistent issue that has led to food recalls in 2017. Products recalled due to potential Listeria have included Basha’s and Food City cheeses, Guggisberg’s cheeses and Amish Classics, Deli Readi and Deli Made cheeses. Veggie Noodle Co. also issued a Listeria recall for its Butternut Spirals.
