"Generally, you go by means of a congressional oversight overview. We're performing that. Let's not go to the very finish of the extreme. Let's let this play out the way it should.

Stephanopoulos asked Huckabee Sanders about a top Republican's call for an independent investigation of Russia's alleged meddling in the election.

When Bill Maher on his show "Genuine Time" pressed GOP Rep. Darrell Issa of California on whether President Trump's appointee as attorney general, Jeff Sessions, ought to investigate reports that members of President Trump's campaign had make contact with with Russian officials, Issa agreed an independent prosecutor is necessary.

Issa told Maher, "You can not have somebody -- a buddy of mine, Jeff Sessions -- who was on the campaign and who is an appointee ... You happen to be going to have to have to use the unique prosecutor's statute and workplace."

Lawyer Basic Sessions oversees the FBI and the Justice Division which -- separate from any congressional committee evaluations -- is investigating Russia's alleged meddling in the election and reported contacts between members of the Trump campaign and Russian officials

Huckabee Sanders mentioned on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that Congress should really complete its review 1st, which she stated she is confident will show that Trump associates had not involvement in Russia's actions.

"What ever critique that Congress desires to do, I assume that is the 1st step," she stated. "There are two committees that are at the moment undertaking that. We're extremely confident that, whatever overview, they're all going to come to the same conclusion -- that we had no involvement in this."

Huckabee Sanders also suggested that a Russia probe is not some thing "that the American folks care about."

"At some point, we get to a location exactly where we've got to move on and start out focusing on the items that the American people care about, and I do not believe this is it," she mentioned.

Stephanopoulos also asked Huckabee Sanders why the president decided not to attend this year's White Property Correspondents' Dinner.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that he will not be attending the annual dinner of White Residence journalists which presidents traditionally attend.

I will not be attending the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner this year. Please wish absolutely everyone well and have a great evening!

"One of the items we say in the South: if a Girl Scout egged your house, would you invest in cookies from her? I consider that this is a quite similar situation," Huckabee Sanders said.

Huckabee Sanders stated, "This wasn't a president that was elected to spend his time with reporters and celebrities. This is a president who campaigned on speaking straight to Americans, and that's what he's going to commit his time undertaking."

A day prior to his tweet, Trump doubled down on his attacks on the media at the Conservative Political Action Conference. He repeated his assertions that "fake" news is the "enemy of the individuals," particularly hitting the press for making use of unnamed sources.
