34th brace: Lewandowski's birthday goals bring Barça victory

Robert Lewandowski gave himself a present for his 34th birthday: he scored for the first time in La Liga and led FC Barcelona to victory on the second matchday. He scored two goals at Real Sociedad San Sebastián.

World footballer Robert Lewandowski has now arrived at FC Barcelona in the top scorers list in the Spanish Primera División. The ex-Bayern professional, who was still unlucky on the first day of the game, scored on Sunday evening on his 34th birthday at Real Sociedad San Sebastián after just 44 seconds and then in the 68th minute for the second time.

Real Sociedad won the ball immediately after kick-off, penetrated the penalty area and unsuccessfully called for a penalty. Suddenly Alejandro Balde had the ball, he headed towards the Sociedad goal, but the 18-year-old's shot went completely wrong. But he became an assist for Lewandowski, who capitalized and scored his first goal.

The first goal with the left foot, the second with the right. Because in the 68th minute, the opponents left Lewandowski's team-mate Pedri too much space in the penalty area. He hung up on Ansu Fati, who crossed Poland again. The double pack on the birthday was perfect – on which FC Bayern also congratulated via Twitter.

After a lot of back and forth, Lewandowski switched to Catalonia in the summer and left the Bundesliga after a total of twelve years (four at Borussia Dortmund, eight at FC Bayern). "I'm happy and proud of the team," said Lewandowski. He dedicated his debut goal for Barça to his late father "who is watching from heaven". A week earlier, Lewandowski had remained pale in the 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano. "The first game wasn't good, everything was new. We have to get to know each other in the first few weeks, but it gets better with every game," said the attacker.

The Catalans won the game on the second day of La Liga 4-1 (1-1). After the quick equalizer by former Dortmund player Alexander Isak (6th), Ousmane Dembélé (66th), who was also employed by BVB, put Barça back in the lead. Lewandowski and Ansu Fati (79th) increased. "It's a nice win and we're happy. Robert Lewandowski and Ansu Fati help us a lot," said Dembélé, adding: "It's better to play with Robert than against him." In the table, Barcelona jumped up to fifth with four points.
