Agreement with summer ?: Bayern's goalkeeping coup is apparently very close

Manuel Neuer will be missing from FC Bayern Munich for months - and that puts pressure on the record champions. The goals are big, the tasks complicated. Now one has apparently agreed on an engagement at least with a top goalkeeper. However, this creates new problems on the horizon.

The possible change from goalkeeper Yann Sommer to the German soccer record champion FC Bayern Munich is taking on more concrete forms. According to information from the pay-TV broadcaster Sky, Sommer and Bayern have agreed verbally on a change in winter. In Munich, the 34-year-old Swiss could sign a contract until 2025. The Swiss “Blick” had previously reported on this contract period. Those responsible for Sommer's current club Borussia Mönchengladbach also knew about the agreement.

However, there will only be a release from Gladbach in winter if the club has found a suitable successor for the Swiss World Cup goalkeeper. In addition, coach Daniel Farke should definitely want to keep his goalkeeper for the second half of the season. Sommer's contract in Gladbach expires at the end of June, the Swiss is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

Munich are looking for a replacement for national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who will be out for the rest of the season due to a broken leg. The planned return campaign by Alexander Nübel, who is currently on loan to AS Monaco in France, met with resistance. There is currently no forecast as to when Neuer could return after his serious injury.

One thing is clear: If Yann Sommer, a top international goalkeeper, actually moves to Munich and signs a longer contract, this would be anything but a placeholder solution just to stand in for the captain. Neuer's contract runs until 2024, the 2014 world champion definitely wants to be in goal for the national team at the home European Championship in 2024.

Those in charge of the record champions decided early on not to put the responsibility in the goal in the hands of substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. The 34-year-old enjoys a high reputation in the club, but apparently he is not seen as a permanent new representative at the highest level. From mid-February, one of the highest possible hurdles awaits the Bundesliga side on the way to the really big goals in the Champions League round of 16: FC Bayern will then meet the French top club Paris Saint-Germain with the superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. Sommer would be eligible to play internationally immediately.
