Alan Shearer says Aaron Ramsdale did "everything right" in Arsenal's victory over Southampton

Since his summer move from Sheffield United, the 23-year old has been a star between the sticks for Gunners.

Ramsdale replaced Bernd Leno earlier in the season as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice stopper. He has also kept his more experienced colleague out of the team.

As he scored his seventh clean sheet in the Emirates campaign, the England international was back to his best.

Shearer, a former striker for England and Newcastle, praised Ramsdale's performance on BBC's Match of the Day.

"He was very busy, he did everything right. Shearer said that some of his saves were again outstanding, as he told BBC Match of the Day.

"Seven clean sheets for him now in 13 games. Arteta might have preferred that he was used more often.

Ramsdale is also praised for his distribution. Shearer was particularly impressed by Ramsdale's long-range pass to Gabriel Martinelli.

Shearer said, "Good, commanding to go for the ball, and take the pressure off his opponents,'" Shearer added. But, how about that for a pass. This is amazing. That is amazing. We've seen it a few times this year.

Martin Keown, a Match of the Day pundit and Arsenal legend, said that it was his character that he brings to the team.

You wouldn't believe it if he had relegated twice in a row. He has exceeded all expectations and continues to improve.

"The fans love him because he makes top saves when it really matters.

"His concentration was amazing in this game today, and he's going to continue growing in strength."
