Almuth Schult becomes a mother again: After a stroke of fate, the DFB keeper announces baby news

Germany goalkeeper Almuth Schult is pregnant again. The 31-year-old from Lower Saxony only had to cope with a family blow in December 2022, but can now look forward to having children. But the birth should not be the end of her career.

Germany goalkeeper Almuth Schult is pregnant again three years after giving birth to her twins. The offspring of the mother of two is expected at the end of August. "Pregnancy makes us all look happier to the future," said the ex-VfL Wolfsburg player to the North German broadcaster NDR. Most recently, the grief after the death of her father-in-law last December pushed Schult's further career planning into the background.

She stated that she wanted to continue playing after the pregnancy. "I would like to continue my football career after pregnancy and childbirth," she was quoted as saying by NDR. Most recently, however, she had ruled out a renewed engagement in the Bundesliga. "I don't see any reason to play in Germany again at the moment," she said.

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg congratulated Almuth Schult and emphasized her importance for the national team. "In the past three years, she has impressively taken on many challenges and new roles in the national team. She was also a great and important source of support for the entire team at the European Championship. For the near future, we wish her above all that the Pregnancy is going well and everyone stays healthy," she said in a statement from the German Football Association (DFB).

In December, Schult claims to have reached an agreement with a foreign club, but initially had to cancel for personal reasons. The commitment at the US club Angel City FC last year was quickly over. The national goalkeeper is therefore also faced with an uncertain situation in the DFB team. The goalkeeper will miss the upcoming World Cup from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand due to her pregnancy. "I'll miss a major tournament for the first time since 2011, but the reason couldn't be better," she said.
