Another national team: Jogi Löw beckons prominent coaching position

The Belgian national football team around figureheads such as playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, striker Romelu Lukaku and keeper Thibaut Courtois is currently without a coach. The association is also thinking of a German coach when filling the post.

According to a media report, Germany's world champion coach Joachim Löw can obviously hope for an exciting challenge. As the Belgian newspaper "Het Nieuwsblad" reports, the former national coach is one of the preferred solutions for filling the post of national coach of the Belgian national team. Löw is on a so-called "shortlist" of the Belgians, who parted ways with long-time coach Roberto Martínez after the disappointing performance at the World Cup in Qatar. The Spaniard, meanwhile, is responsible for Portugal's selection.

Joachim Löw has been without a job since his resignation as coach of the German selection. Since then, the 62-year-old has repeatedly been associated with commitments at various clubs and associations. He looked after the DFB for 15 years, and in 2014 he won the World Cup in Brazil with his team. Last October, Löw revealed to "Kicker" that he now "feels motivated again" to return to active football. "If I feel a task appeals to me, I'm ready and attack again."

Belgium, meanwhile, have been looking for a suitable coach for some time. According to the report, a specially created task force will meet in Belgium on Thursday and Friday to fill the vacancy promptly. However, Löw is far from the only prominent name on the wish list. Former Tottenham and PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino is named, as is Portuguese André Villas-Boas. In Belgium, the new coach is faced with the task of finally decorating the "golden generation" around playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, striker Romelu Lukaku and keeper Thibaut Courtois with a title.

According to "Het Nieuwsblad" there is a big question mark behind each of the three coaches. It should first be clarified whether an obligation for the association would be feasible from a financial point of view. If not, other candidates will be considered. Some well-known names, such as former world-class players Andrea Pirlo and Thierry Henry, are said to be no longer among the favourites.
