Markus Beginning has found a new job in German football seven months after his vaccination card scandal at Werder Bremen. Two days before his 48th birthday, the native of Cologne signed a contract with Dynamo Dresden, who had been relegated to the second division, until 2024. On the Elbe, the former professional succeeded Guerino Capretti, who was released by the Saxons after failing to stay up at the end of May .

"A lot of things happened that just created a certain fear in you," said the new Dresden coach at his performance. "Nobody can take away the fear I have from events in my family." At the same time, however, Anfang attached importance to the statement that "vaccinating against corona is completely fine for me and I am not against a corona vaccination".
For Dynamo's sports director Ralf Becker, who had already worked in the same constellation with the second division club Holstein Kiel from the beginning, trust in their qualities outweighed all reservations. Beginning had resigned from Werder last year under increasing pressure because of the falsified information about his corona vaccination status.
"Of course we gave it a lot of thought, which went beyond the purely sporting side. For us, it was crucial that he openly and honestly admitted his misconduct from the past and sincerely regretted it. Everyone makes mistakes and Markus is responsible for his and received the just punishment. We are convinced that we have found the right man in him. His professional expertise is beyond question," explained Becker.
Beginning also brings his assistant Florian Junge with him to Dresden. The assistant coach was also investigated in Bremen because of false information in his vaccination card. Beginning was banned for one year by the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) at the beginning of the year, retroactive to November 20, 2021. The sentence has been suspended since June 10th.
