Bad goalkeeper mistake: Klopp's Liverpool has to sit in detention in the FA Cup

The mishaps at Liverpool FC continue. Coach Jürgen Klopp's team can't win again, so the Premier League club has to play a replay in the FA Cup. It's even worse for an up-and-coming league competitor.

When World Cup discovery Cody Gakpo made his debut, German team manager Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC missed out on qualifying for the fourth round of the FA Cup. After beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 (1-1) at Anfield, the Reds now have to play the replay at Wolves' stadium on January 17th.

Goncalo Guedes put the guests ahead after a major mistake by Liverpool keeper Alisson (26'). The Brazilian goalkeeper played the ball unhindered at Guedes' feet, who only had to push it in. However, Darwin Nunez equalized before the break (45'). In the second half, Mohamed Salah scored for the favorites (52'), but ex-Leipzig player Hee-chan Hwang cheated the ball into the net (66').

In the 81st minute, Klopp's Liverpool team had some luck when the video referee denied Wolverhampton's supposed winning goal in a confusing situation.

Dutchman Gakpo, who scored three goals at the World Cup in Qatar, was in the starting XI on his first appearance for the new club. The 23-year-old made a rather unspectacular debut a few days after his transfer from PSV Eindhoven. After all, he prepared the interim 2-1 for Liverpool through Salah.

Liverpool's league competitor Newcastle United meanwhile surprisingly failed at third division side Sheffield Wednesday. Third in the Premier League table, they lost 2-1 (0-0) to the three-time FA Cup winners after a brace from Josh Windass (52nd and 65th minute). For Newcastle, Bruno Guimarães only managed the connecting goal to the final score (69th).
