Contento goes "new paths": Bavaria's triple winner ends his career

Diego Contento won the most important titles in European club football with FC Bayern. The left-back then moves to France and then back to Germany. Now, at the age of 32, he is announcing the end of his active career.

The long-time Bundesliga professional Diego Contento, treble winner with FC Bayern, has ended his football career. The 32-year-old wrote on Instagram that he had thought about this step for a long time: "This was not an easy decision for me, but I feel that it is now time to break new ground." Most recently, the former left-back was without a club.

Contento posted a video for the text, in which he stands on the lawn of the empty Allianz Arena in Munich, among other things, and works for his former clubs. With Bayern, for whom he played a total of 69 competitive games from 2010 to 2014, Contento had won the treble of Champions League, championship and DFB Cup in 2013.

A year later he moved to Girondins Bordeaux in France, from there to Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2018. Contento was only used once for the club in the DFB Cup due to injury. In the 2020/21 season, the German-Italian played for the second division club SV Sandhausen and has been without a club since then.
