Darmstadt brings late victory: Red Devils make the Betze tremble powerfully

At the end of the 3rd day of the 2nd Bundesliga, promoted Kaiserslautern settled into the top group. A very early and a very late goal are enough against FC St. Pauli. Shortly before the end, Darmstadt clinches the second victory, Kiel celebrates the first three.

1. FC Kaiserslautern continues to march happily through the 2nd Bundesliga after promotion. With the 2:1 (1:0) against FC St. Pauli, coach Dirk Schuster's team took second place on the third day of the game and thus gained a cushion on the relegation zone early in the season. For Hamburg, on the other hand, it was the first defeat of the season.

Terrence Boyd (9th) and Kenny Prince Redondo (86th) ensured victory in front of 39,579 fans on the atmospheric Betzenberg. Jakov Medic (88th) shortened for the guests. After the success against Hannover 96 (2:1) and the draw at Holstein Kiel (2:2), Schuster's team drew level with leaders Jahn Regensburg on points by winning the second home game of the season with seven points.

On the first goal, Boyd headed in after a cross from ex-world champion Erik Durm. With the lead behind them, FCK gave the visitors the ball, but apart from a great chance from Jackson Irvine (28'), St. Pauli rarely developed a goal threat for a long time. Kaiserslautern, on the other hand, repeatedly put needle pricks, Boyd (65th) hit the post from close range. Redondo raised, Medic made it exciting again.

Again no goal for Eintracht Braunschweig: One week after the cup coup against the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC, the Lower Saxony are still waiting for the first goal and the first point after three games. The North Germans lost 0-1 (0-0) against Darmstadt 98.

Swede Oscar Vilhelmsson scored the goal of the day with a lob in the 86th minute. Ex-Brunswick player Philipp Tietz had previously failed in the 49th minute with a penalty kick on Eintracht goalkeeper Jasmin Fejzic. Especially in the first half, in front of 16,731 spectators, climaxes were few and far between. Visiting goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen prevented Braunschweig's early lead twice from close range in the seventh minute. Tietz missed a promising position in the 43rd minute.

After the missed penalty, the game picked up speed. In the 68th minute, the Dane Magnus Warming hit the post for Darmstadt. Seconds earlier, Eintracht coach Michael Schiele had replaced new signing Anthony Ujah. The experienced striker was signed on Tuesday, but remained harmless.

Holstein Kiel celebrated their first competitive win of the season. After losing the DFB Cup, coach Marcel Rapp's team won 2-1 (1-1) at 1. FC Magdeburg. Marco Komenda (18th) and Benedikt Pichler (59th, penalty kick) scored for Kiel. Jason Ceka (43') scored the goal for Magdeburg, who were outnumbered after Jamie Lawrence (57') received a yellow card.

The Kielers had not managed to get beyond a draw on the first two matchdays, and the North Germans had failed in the first round of the cup at the third division Waldhof Mannheim. Magdeburg was also eliminated against Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. After Magdeburg had dominated the first few minutes against Kiel, a largely balanced game developed. After a corner kick, Komenda scored the opening goal for Holstein. Magdeburg struggled at first, but equalized with Ceka.

Even after the break, both teams started with speed. Lawrence finally brought down Steven Skrzybski in the penalty area and had to be sent off. The Magdeburg defender had previously been booked for a dive. Pichler then safely converted the penalty.
