EM gold for German boxers: Tiafack to consider, fight is canceled

Ayoub Ghadfa has no chance: In a duel with the German boxing giant Nelvie Tiafack, the Spaniard is counted twice before the fight is stopped due to superiority. With this impressive performance, 23-year-old Tiafack celebrates his greatest international success to date.

Five years after the last title, the German boxers have finally won gold again at the European Championships. Bergheimer Nelvie Tiafack defeated Spaniard Ayoub Ghadfa by demolition due to superiority in the super heavyweight final (over 92 kilograms) in Yerevan on Monday. The last European champion was Abass Baraou from Berlin in 2017 at welterweight.

The 23-year-old with Cameroonian roots, who trains in Cologne, delivered a very impressive performance. Coach Lukas Wilaschek's protégé was physically superior to the Spaniard. In the second round, Ghadfa had to be counted twice after hard hits. At the beginning of the third round, the towel came out of the Spanish corner as a sign of surrender.

Tiafack thus celebrated its greatest international success. Three years ago he had won bronze at the European Games in Minsk and reached the quarter-finals at the World Championships that same year. He surprisingly missed the Olympic Games in Tokyo last year. The 120-kilo man then changed his diet and lost eleven kilos. Tiafack wants to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris in two years and then switch to the professionals.

The German Boxing Association was represented by nine athletes in the Armenian capital. Six reached the quarterfinals. Magomed Schachidov from Munich lost in the semifinals against Garan Croft from Wales. Thus, he was denied entry into the final and he had to settle for bronze.
