Grand Prix race results: Perez wins Baku F1 race Following Verstappen blows tyre

Sergio Perez won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku for Red Bull Racing on Sunday, the sixth race of this 2021 Formula 1 World Championship year, following longtime leader Max Verstappen blew a tyre and hauled out at the final stages.

The race has been red-flagged, allowing the trail to be removed and cars could change tyres.

From a standing start, for its last 2 laps, Perez was defeated off the startline from the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, but Lewis locked-up and moved straight on 1 and then fell into the tail of this area. Perez won was educated to prevent his car directly after taking the chequered flag.

From pole position, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc headed Hamilton and Verstappen, together with Perez moving beyond Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) round the outside Turn 4.

Hamilton slipstreamed ago Leclerc to direct at end of Lap two, the Ferrari then fell into DRS assortment of Verstappen, who handed Leclerc in the beginning of Leclerc. Behind them, Tsunoda handed Alonso for seventh.

Perez handed Leclerc for third, prompting Leclerc to pit on Lap 10 to change to hard tyres. Leader Hamilton ceased on Lap 12, but endured a slow halt of 4.6so Mercedes needed to wait around for Gasly to proceed past to discharge him.

Stroll ran even more on his initial stint compared to teammate Vettel, after popping from qualifying and starting from the tail of this area. Stroll was running on Lap 31 when he crashed heavily on the start/finish directly because of a left-rear blowout. This triggered a security car but since the pits have been shut -- because of where Stroll's car ended -- it just served to shut up the pack instead of change the order without a'free' pitstops out there.

Just Alonso, Giovinazzi, George Russell (Williams) and Mick Schumacher (Haas, whose left-front was not fitted correctly and he needed to be pushed back) all matched for softs.

The race restarted on Lap 36, together with Verstappen top and Perez obstructing Hamilton. On fresher tyres, Vettel handed Leclerc for fifth on the exit of Turn 1, and also nearly got Gasly at Turn 3. Vettel needed to wait before the start/finish right, where he smashed past Gasly for fourth. Additional back, Sainz acquired past Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) for ninth.

Verstappen pulled clear front, while Perez fended off a more DRS-assisted assault from Hamilton. With only three laps remaining, Verstappen crashed out of the lead because his left-rear tyre blew, like Stroll's had.

Esteban Ocon (Alpine) retired with a motor issue after a couple of laps.
