Kahn becomes philosophical again: "Without eggs it will be difficult at Bayern"

Oliver Kahn is heating up the 50 1 debate again and is calling for the rule to be reconsidered. With a view to his own club, the Bayern boss is once again resorting to his macho eggs philosophy - and has to agree with Franz Beckenbauer on a special point.

CEO Oliver Kahn from FC Bayern Munich has suggested questioning the 50 1 rule in German football. "One should continue to think about the meaning of the 50 1 rule! 50 1 has now become an ideology. Anyone who questions the concept or at least encourages thought games is automatically the bad guy," said Kahn in an interview in "11Freunde Bundesliga special". "However, I think it distorts competition if whole countries have the opportunity to become investors without regulation."

The 50 1 rule, which is binding for all professional clubs, states that after the spin-off of its professional department into a corporation, the parent club must continue to hold the majority of the voting shares. It is intended to limit the influence of investors in German professional football.

An abolition of the rule could possibly also cause more tension in the Bundesliga, which Munich dominates with ten championships in a row. "Our goal remains to be German champions every year. But one can assume that our competition could become stronger if the 50-1 rule is lifted," said Kahn.

After an induction phase, the former world-class goalkeeper took over as CEO of FC Bayern from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in the summer of 2021. Rummenigge is no longer in office, and the long-time manager and president Uli Hoeneß is no longer active in the front line.

"Both have led the club for decades, and Uli Hoeneß is still involved as a member of the supervisory board, so their advice is of course always welcome. We, Herbert Hainer as President, Hasan Salihamidzic and I, stand together with my board colleagues Jan-Christian Dreesen and Andreas Jung and the supervisory board, and it is clear to all of us that at FC Bayern there is always a lot that comes in from the environment," said Kahn.

When asked whether, based on his legendary saying ("Eggs, we need eggs"), you also need eggs as a boss, Kahn said: "Without eggs it will indeed be difficult at FC Bayern. But you can't compare that. Franz Beckenbauer said: 'The best time in life is when you're a player.' I've always wondered what exactly he means by that. Today I can say: he was a bit right!"
