Menstruation and clothing: England's women will continue to wear white trousers for the time being

The England internationals want to change their playing attire. The reason: the white trousers can lead to unpleasant situations during the period. Although the English association assures them full support, the change to another color has been delayed.

The English Football Association FA intends to implement the demand from its national players for non-white shorts at a later date. At the next European Championship game against Norway on Monday, the "Lionesses" would again appear completely in white, the association announced. After the 1-0 win against Austria, the players had asked for differently colored shorts to avoid awkward situations during the period.

"We recognize the importance and want our players to feel our full support on this issue," stressed the association. "Any feedback from them will be considered for future design." They will work closely with outfitter Nike and at the same time meet the requirements of the European Football Union UEFA as the organizer of the European Championships.

Midfielder Georgia Stanway, who will play at Bayern Munich from the new season, previously said: "We know it's difficult because we all associate England with white. But it's something that affects us as women." You can imagine that there will be a color change in the new season.

Beth Mead, who scored in the opening game against Austria in front of 68,800 spectators at a sold-out Old Trafford for the hugely acclaimed 1-0 for the "Lionesses", said: "It's very nice to appear all in white. But it's in a phase of the month impractical for us women." Within the team, playing attire is a big issue and should be dealt with quickly, she added.

"We're dealing with it the best we can. We've discussed it as teams and passed it on to Nike," Mead said, "hopefully they can change that." What color do you think is suitable? "I'm pretty relaxed about that," Mead said. "When I play for my country I don't care what I wear."

For the German team, white trousers are only the third choice. She usually plays in black or green shorts at the European Championships.
