Milestone for McDavid too: NHL star Draisaitl breaks the next sound barrier

Ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl breaks the next sound barrier in the NHL. With two assists and one goal, the German international played a key role in the success of his Edmonton Oilers against the Philadelphia Flyers and increased his NHL record to over 700 points.

The German national ice hockey player Leon Draisaitl has ended the series of four consecutive defeats with his Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers won 4-2 (1-1, 0-1, 3-0) against the Philadelphia Flyers in the North American ice hockey league NHL. The 27-year-old from Cologne scored to make it 2-2, it was his 34th goal of the season. He also gave two assists. His partner Connor McDavid scored his 43 and 44 goals this season which made the success perfect. The 26-year-old Canadian put the Oilers ahead with 7:21 minutes to go, before hitting an empty goal with 2:25 minutes to go.

McDavid also assisted in Draisaitl's goal, his 800th point of his NHL career and Draisaitl's 700. Overall, McDavid now has 802 points in 545 games and Draisaitl has 701 in 614 games. McDavid leads the season's scoring list with 105 points (44 goals/61 assists). "That was an important win for us. We'll take the two points and keep at it," said Draisaitl. McDavid is the fifth fastest player in NHL history to reach the 800 mark. Only Wayne Gretzky (352 games), Mario Lemieux (410), Mike Bossy (525) and Peter Stastny (531) managed to do that in fewer games.

Meanwhile, Moritz Seider celebrated success even without his own scorer point. The defenseman defeated the Washington Capitals 3-1 with the Detroit Red Wings. Forward John-Jason Peterka suffered another setback with the Buffalo Sabers in a 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goalie Thomas Greiss was not used when his St. Louis Blues lost 4-1 at the Carolina Hurricanes.
