Müller, Kimmich tested positive: FC Bayern with corona shock before the top game at BVB

Bayern Munich and Corona. This is an eternal story. Another chapter will be added a week before the top game at Borussia Dortmund. Just one day after the furious end of the crisis against Leverkusen, Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Müller have to go into domestic isolation.

Bayern Munich just can't get rid of the Corona issue. One day after the 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen, national players Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich tested positive for the corona virus, the Bundesliga soccer team said. "Both players are symptom-free, they are fine," said a statement on the record champions' website: "Kimmich and Müller are in domestic isolation."

A real mood killer for Bayern, who had ended their earnings crisis the night before with a furious performance against Bayer Leverkusen and are now within striking distance of the championship lead again after the sobering results for the competition from Dortmund and Berlin. With 15 points now, the record champions are only two points short of the current leader Union Berlin. They have already overtaken Borussia Dortmund after the defeat of the fickle team from the Ruhr area at 1. FC Köln.

Bayern stars Müller and Kimmich now have a race against time ahead of the top game against Borussia next Saturday in Dortmund's Westfalenstadion. The two national players will almost certainly not be available for the game in the Champions League against Viktoria Pilsen, but Saturday seems feasible if the game is symptom-free.

At Bayern, captain Manuel Neuer and midfielder Leon Goretzka recently tested positive. Both left the German national team's World Cup dress rehearsal against Hungary and England without having achieved anything. However, both were back on the pitch against Leverkusen.

It is not the first corona infection for Müller and Kimmich. For example, the 33-year-old Müller made headlines when he was flown back to Germany from the Club World Cup in Qatar in the first pandemic winter in February 2021 with a corona infection. Midfield star Kimmich infected later in the year, but not before sparking a nationwide debate with his decision to be critical of vaccination.

In the Bavarian capital of Munich, the corona numbers had recently risen again. On September 20, the incidence was just over 200, but at the beginning of October it passed the 800 mark.
