Musiala is case number 31: Corona virus puts next Bayern star out of action

This season, Bayern Munich has not only caught it on the pitch, where not everything wants to succeed, but also off it. With Jamala Musiala, the German soccer record champion has already reported the fifth corona infection of a national player within a few weeks. The super talent is canceled for the time being.

The corona virus continues to have a firm grip on FC Bayern Munich. With national player Jamal Musiala, the record champion has already recorded the 31st positive test since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. "The FC Bayern offensive player is doing well, he is in domestic isolation," said the Munich team on their website.

Musiala will miss Bayern's fourth group game of the UEFA Champions League away to Viktoria Pilsen. The national player is thus continuing the long series of positive corona tests that have recently caused the record champions more problems. Just last weekend, at the classic in Dortmund, Thomas Müller didn't make it into the squad and Joshua Kimmich only had air for 45 minutes. Both had tested positive for the corona virus in early October.

Before Musiala, Müller and Kimmich, 16-year-old Paul Wanner was also caught. During the last international break, both Leon Goretzka and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had to leave the DFB team. However, Bayern did not have to do without either player as their infection had already been cured by the time the league returned against Bayer Leverkusen on the last day of September.

As part of the infections of Müller and Kimmich, it became known that Bayern continue to subject their players to PCR tests every two to three days and thus act more strictly than most other Bundesliga clubs. In addition to the increasing number of cases, the corona virus had mostly caught trainers in the past few weeks. Freiburg's Christian Streich and Daniel Farke tested positive, as did Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer, who was able to travel to Malmö for the Europa League game after his team tested negative.

After the positive tests at the DFB-Elf in September, national coach Hansi Flick had already pointed out that Corona would also be an issue at the World Cup in Qatar, which begins in November. "Maybe you have to consciously reduce contacts again," he said: "Life should go on, so we have to see that we keep it under control."
