Funes Mori (30 years old, born in Argentina), scored his second and third goals for Mexico. His debut was in a June 3 match against Nigeria. He was also playing in his third international match.

Mexico opened Group A against Trinidad and Tobago with a 0-0 draw. Guatemala lost to El Salvador by 2-0. Mexico will play El Salvador in the final stage of the group stage on Sunday in Dallas.

Funes Mori scored El Tri's first goal in the 29th minute after a delay due to a storm. He received a lofted pass by Hector Herrera just outside the penalty box, cut the ball back to his left foot, and beat goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen 12 yards away.

Funes Mori doubled his lead in the 55th by scoring a right-footed shot at 8 yards from Pineda's cross. Pineda then added a goal with a six-yard leaping header in 79th after Luis Rodriguez crossed.
