Schumacher causes the race to be stopped: Perez cheers and Leclerc rages in the rain chaos in Monaco

Rain causes delays in the Formula 1 race in Monaco, then a serious Schumacher accident and finally a Grand Prix that is extremely exciting right up to the last lap. Charles Leclerc loses the long-awaited home win in the pits, instead Red Bull triumphs.

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez won the Monaco Grand Prix, breaking the previous dominance of world champions Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. The Mexican prevailed on Sunday ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari and world champion Verstappen in the second Red Bull. In the seventh round of the season, victory went to neither Verstappen nor Leclerc for the first time.

The Ferrari star had to settle for fourth place in his home race. In the World Cup classification, Verstappen slightly increased his lead, the gap to Leclerc is now nine points. Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel finished tenth in the points, Mick Schumacher retired in the Haas after a serious accident, but was apparently uninjured.

His crash caused the race to be interrupted for 20 minutes, after the start had already been postponed by a good hour due to heavy rain. The planned race distance of 78 laps could therefore not be completed, after 64 laps it was over.

It was Perez's third win of his Formula 1 career and his second since joining Red Bull last season.
