The Bundesliga professional Atakan Karazor from VfB Stuttgart was arrested during his vacation on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza, the Bundesliga soccer team confirmed in a brief statement on its own website. "VfB midfielder Atakan Karazor was arrested while on vacation in Ibiza. He denies any criminal activity. VfB is in constant contact with its lawyers," the club said in the statement. VfB did not say what the 25-year-old is accused of and added: "Since the proceedings are ongoing, we ask for your understanding that VfB cannot comment further for the time being."
The Spanish police informed the German Press Agency that two 25-year-old Germans had been arrested in Ibiza, who had been accused of rape by a young Spaniard. She did not disclose the identities of the people. Previously, however, several international media had already reported on the incident, which, according to the English newspaper "The Daily Mirror", is said to have occurred on Wednesday.
The "Bild" reports that it is said to be an 18-year-old Spaniard who accuses the Stuttgart professional and his friend of the same age of rape. The English "Mirror", which first reported on the incident, added that the woman had already undergone a medical examination.
According to the picture, the native of Essen should remain in custody until at least Monday. Under Spanish law, rape carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years. Karazor has been under contract with VfB Stuttgart since July 2019. He recently extended his contract until 2026. So far he has played 23 second division and 43 Bundesliga games for VfB.
