The French table tennis delegation will leave Pusan (South Korea) whatever happens with two medals. This in itself is already unprecedented, because the country has never won two medals in the same edition of the world team championships. But the color of the metal still remains to be determined.

A few hours after their male counterparts, the women’s table tennis players validated their ticket for the semi-finals of the World Championships on Thursday February 22. The matches for 3rd place do not exist, the Tricolores are therefore assured of at least bronze in both categories.

Led by brothers Alexis and Félix Lebrun, the Blues won against the Portuguese (3-1) and they will face the winner of the confrontation between Germany and Taiwan on Saturday to secure a place in the final. The French have not been invited to the podium of a World Team Championship since 1997. During the previous edition, in October 2022, in Chengdu (China), they stopped in the quarter-finals.

In the women’s category, the Tricolores achieved the performance of taking out Germany, the third nation in the world, with a score of 3-2. They secure their first medal since 1991. They will play their half on Friday against China. The task will not be the easiest as the latter leads a series of five titles in a row and has been undefeated since 2010.
