"Then it will be difficult": Haas is slowly losing patience with Schumacher

Mick Schumacher always got away with his crashes with a fright. This also makes it easier for his Haas racing team, but it doesn't make anyone completely happy. Because the 23-year-old does not deliver any success, only causes high costs. Team boss Günther Steiner is becoming increasingly dissatisfied.

Things are going much better than ever for the US racing team Haas this season. Since the rule reform, the team is no longer left behind, but scores points. However, only through Kevin Magnussen. Mick Schumacher is still waiting for his first points in Formula 1. And that bothers team boss Günther Steiner more and more.

The race in Monaco also ended disastrously for Schumacher. The 23-year-old could once again be happy that he survived a violent crash unscathed, after 27 laps he broke his Haas car into two parts after a driving error. The pressure on the young driver increases as his teammate Magnussen shows that it is possible to get the Haas into the points. The Dane has already scored 15 points this season, while together with Schumacher only another regular driver, Nicholas Latifi in the Williams, is trailing behind with zero points.

Steiner therefore recently publicly increased the pressure on the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. In an interview with the Italian offshoot of the motorsport.com portal, the 57-year-old now followed suit. "Mick's points are missing from the team, but also from him," Steiner explained his view of things and emphasized the harsh reality of the premier class: "There is no hiding in Formula 1. Only the results count and Mick knows that very well."

Driving mistakes like in Monaco or before in Miami only increase the pressure on Schumacher. "He knows the expectations when you have a team-mate who scores points," said Steiner, adding: "Then you have to match him and if you don't, it will be difficult." Especially since Schumacher not only does not deliver any points, but also causes a lot of scrap and thus repair costs.

After tough previous years, the expectations of the US racing team have grown immensely. Last year, Schumacher and his ex-teammate Nikita Mazepin had no chance at all. In 2020 there was even the possibility of withdrawing from Formula 1, Steiner said. But owner Gene Haas ultimately decided against it. "Fortunately it's a different story now and I can say that Haas will be around for a long time. I'm sure of it," said the team boss, looking optimistically into the future.
