Transfer rings at the Supercup: "Poacher" Nagelsmann is banned from analysis

Julian Nagelsmann is whistled at during the Supercup in Leipzig. Because the Bayern coach continues to poach at his former club, he has fallen out of favor with the fans. And RB coach Domenico Tedesco also cuts off his colleague's word as a precaution.

The polite Domenico Tedesco actually likes to let his guests have the first word. But after the duel in the Supercup, RB Leipzig's coach verbally grabbed his Munich colleague Julian Nagelsmann as a precaution. The DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig had just lost 3: 5 (0: 3) against the German champions in a wild spectacle, but at the press conference Tedesco marked the hosts. When both coaches were asked by the reporter about their interpretation of Konrad Laimer's performance, Tedesco replied with a grin, but firmly: "Why ask both coaches? He's my player!" And Nagelsmann hastily added: "Right, I didn't even look at how he played."

That was of course a hoax. Anyone who knows the analytically gifted Nagelsmann knows that he would be able and would even enjoy it to deliver a detailed analysis of all 22 players plus substitutes immediately after the final whistle. But Tedesco's objection left no doubt: Only one person in the press room at the Leipzig stadium is talking about RB Leipzig's midfielder Laimer, who is currently being courted by FC Bayern - namely his coach Tedesco. He would like to continue working with the midfield engine that has fighting spirit for two players. But his predecessor Nagelsmann would like to see Laimer in Munich.

If the fee is right, the Austrian could soon be the fourth ex-Leipzig player in the Bayern team, and Nagelsmann's five-strong coaching team will be added. "There is no Basta from me here, neither in one direction nor in the other," said Leipzig club boss Oliver Mintzlaff on Saturday evening on Sat.1 about the hotly debated personnel. The creative fighter can go for 30 million euros. Good money for someone with only a year left on their contract. But after the bloodletting of the previous season, when seven employees moved from the Pleiße to the Isar, RB Leipzig decided not to give any more gifts to the championship rivals.

Nagelsmann had done a good job in Leipzig for two years and led the club to the Champions League semi-finals and the autumn championship. But with the Leipzig fans, the 35-year-old is persona non grata because of his move to Munich, including the Leipzig table silver Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano and the entire coaching team. The fans in Sector B whistled loudly at the ex-coach. Of course, that didn't matter to the young star of the coaching profession, who, like Obelix, must have fallen into the magic potion as a toddler in an elixir for exuberant self-confidence. At the Munich goals, he first rubbed the tips of his ears and then erupted on the touchline as usual and celebrated each of the five Munich goals in Cristiano Ronaldo style.

Behind the scenes, of course, all of this is seen in a much more relaxed manner. Even before the game, Nagelsmann revealed that he still frequently calls "Oli". Mintzlaff was meant, not his current boss Kahn. In the catacombs it was then observed how Nagelsmann

After the Supercup, that was perhaps also due to the flattering result for Leipzig. By the break, FCB had shown off their rivals. Leipzig barely had ball control and made cheap mistakes like before the 0:1 when Laimer of all people got the ball under pressure in the penalty area and lost to goal scorer Jamal Musiala. It was only when Bayern got tired and Nagelsmann made extensive changes that Leipzig pressed for the equaliser. But the attack after switching to a four-man defense and a diamond in midfield began far too late. "We have to get all the players on the same page, take them to the next level as quickly as possible," said Tedesco with concern.

Finally, the performance of Laimer was not evaluated, who initially did not do much, but who developed punch in the second half. "Konni was very grippy in the second round, very aggressive, won a lot of balls. In two situations we can use him to counterattack a little more cleanly and score even more goals," analyzed the coach. It didn't sound like he would agree to a move. If Tedesco has his way, he will also assess Laimer's performance at the next meeting in January - and not Nagelsmann.
