Eintracht Frankfurt remains on the road to success in the women's Bundesliga: the Hessians remain unbeaten against Bayer Leverkusen in their eighth game of the season. However, the victory is only sealed in the last second.
A good week after the end of the DFB-Pokal, the Eintracht Frankfurt soccer team returned to the Bundesliga thanks to a last-minute goal. The second in the table beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 (0-0) in front of 2486 spectators and at least temporarily moved up to one point at leaders VfL Wolfsburg. The doubles winner plays at 1. FC Köln on Sunday (1 p.m.). Wolfsburg have won all seven games of the season. FC Bayern followed in third place.
The Slovenian Lara Prasnikar ensured the victory for the Frankfurt team shortly before the final whistle with a directly converted free kick (90.3.). The superior Frankfurt women had previously missed numerous good opportunities: After a bumpy start, the Frankfurt women quickly got into the game better and should have taken the lead early on through Geraldine Reuteler (8th). The striker's shot was probably cleared just behind the goal line, but the referee decided to continue play. There is no goal-line technology in the women's Bundesliga.
After almost half an hour, Reuteler had the next big chance, but after she rounded goalkeeper Repohl, she was decisively hampered at the end. In the second half, Frankfurt shifted up a gear and created more chances, but Prasnikar missed three times in a matter of minutes. With the final whistle, the Slovenian scored.
Eintracht failed surprisingly last weekend in the round of 16 at second division leaders RB Leipzig (1: 2). Leverkusen also experienced a frustrating cup game: they lost 3-0 at TSG Hoffenheim. Leverkusen host bottom team 1 on Sunday. FFC Turbine Potsdam host (December 4, 1 p.m.).
At the premiere in the Weser Stadium, Werder Bremen's footballers suffered a setback in the relegation battle despite a good performance. In front of a record crowd of 20,417 spectators in Werder, the Bundesliga soccer team lost 2-1 (1-1) to fifth-placed SC Freiburg on Saturday. The Hanseatic women were mostly equal and a draw would have been deserved. The penultimate missed a liberation and is stuck with two points after eight games in the lower part of the table.
Full-back Nina Lührßen scored the lead with a wonderful goal from a directly converted free kick (26th minute). When the Freiburg team was under pressure shortly before the half-time whistle, Janina Minge (43rd) equalized thanks to a remarkable long-range shot. The midfielder made the guests' victory perfect with her second goal (77th).
