Far-reaching disruptions: Whatsapp is down

A far-reaching disruption has apparently occurred with the Whatsapp messenger service: it is not possible to send and receive messages with the service's app. The complaints are piling up in the online networks.

Extensive technical disruptions have occurred at Whatsapp. Users of the messenger service report on Twitter and other channels that they can no longer send messages. The portal alle disturbances.de registers more than 200,000 complaints in the past 24 hours

Upon opening the app, users find that while they can still access their conversations, they can no longer receive or send new messages. Many users see a constant message at the top of the app stating that the server is connecting, but it isn't.

According to initial findings, the disruption affects users worldwide and both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones. The reason for the disruption in several countries was not initially known. There is no official announcement yet. The service, which belongs to the Facebook group Meta, initially did not comment on the failure.
